Dutch-built personal submarines to retail in Florida

From superyachttimes.com

Brownies Yacht Diver (FL, USA) and Dutch submarine manufacturer U-Boat Worx are teaming up to bring private subs to the United States.

Visitors to this year’s Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (FLIBS), to be held from 28 October to 1 November, will be the first to spot the brightly colored submarines built by U-Boat Worx. Certified to dive to depths of up to 330 ft, the exhibited model at the Show seats one pilot and two passengers.

Private ownership of submersibles has increased considerably over the last few years and is particularly popular in the United States. Both companies hope to establish a full-service submersible sales and support center that will allow individuals and organizations to explore the underwater world in ultimate luxury, comfort and safety.

Built and operated under Germanischer Lloyd classification, U-Boat Worx’s all-electric submersibles meet the highest safety standards in the industry. U-Boat Worx is currently manufacturing two different series: C-Questers and C-Explorers - capable of seating from 1 to 5 passengers, and diving to depths of 330 ft to 3,300 ft. Prices start from US$ 700,000.

The Fort Lauderdale-based dealer Brownies Yacht Diver is a full service dive shop that caters to SCUBA divers and superyacht owners, specializing in exclusive and unique “water toys”. According to its president, Mr Dave Carmichael: “U-Boat Worx’s submersibles fill a market niche with their relatively light, affordable, and easy-to-handle subs. We anticipate strong demand for these fun, yet serious, diving ‘toys’”.
