Intrepid explorers from Jersey are being invited take part in expeditions to help protect the world's wildlife.
If you have ever fancied travelling to far and exotic places, then 2011 could be the year for you.
Earthwatch is looking for volunteers from Jersey to work alongside some of the world's best scientists as research assistants in beautiful locations. Expeditions have been launched for 2011 including adventures to Belize to establish protected areas for sharks. There are 14 expeditions in total and also include working in South Africa to help conserve their mammals and surveying the tropical coral reefs of the Bahamas. The Institute runs different programmes, including ones for teenagers and families and vary in prices, which are charitable donations and help fund research. The expeditions next year will mark Earthwatch's 40th anniversary. Volunteers will join the projects as research assistants, working alongside award-winning world-class scientists. Jane Nijseen from the Earthwatch Institute says anyone can take part. She said: "It doesn't matter what age you are, what background you come from, anybody can join. We have people as young as 10 on some of our family expeditions. "Most people are 18 and over, we have lots of women in their 40s who join us, we have volunteers in their 80s who are still going strong."Posted via http://batavia08.posterous.com batavia08's posterous
