A sailboat that washed ashore at Point Dume early Wednesday morning last week with the captain and his two cats unharmed is still waiting to be salvaged.
Ryan Addison, local ocean lifeguard specialist, said the boat's captain “was sailing from Santa Barbara to the harbor in Los Angeles when he fell asleep and went aground.”Once on shore, the captain contacted the U.S. Coast Guard who routed the call to local lifeguards. The 37-foot sailboat washed up on shore between Big Dume and Little Dume beaches.Another boat broke loose from its moorings and washed ashore at Latigo Canyon Beach on Friday . The owner, a Malibu resident, had the boat taken to Marina del Rey for repairs.Lifeguard Captain Chuck Moore said that at least one or two boats a year wash ashore, especially in the cove at Latigo.“Either the anchor doesn't hold, or someone cuts the line [if they don't want the boat there],” Moore said.Photo September Edwards
