Wreckage from academy’s plane found in water

Multa Fidrus -

An official confirmed that debris from a missing Indonesian Aviation Academy (STPI) training plane was found on Wednesday in the waters off Banten.

“We have just been informed that officers patrolling Bojonegara waters found the debris of the training plane,” Sudirman Sihi, head of airbase security and aviation at Budiarto airport in Curug, Tangerang regency, said.

Sudirman said the Socata TB/10-PK AKGM training plane took off at approximately 8 a.m.

“An hour later we lost contact with Reza Muhamad Faruki, an STPI student who was flying solo across the country in the plane,” Sudirman said.

The plane was believed to be lost in the waters off Bojonegara, Serang, Banten.

A solo cross country flight is required for every STPI student majoring in aviation, Sudirman said.

In the solo flight, Reza flew from Curug airbase to Beranti Airport in Lampung, and was returning to the airbase, he said.

Darwim Amini, head of the aviation school, was out of the office and could not be reached for comment.
