An oil vessel catches fire off Jakarta Bay

The Jakarta Post -

An oil tanker reportedly caught fire 100 nautical miles of the coast of Jakarta Bay close to a China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) offshore drilling rig, on Friday.

The fire, which broke out at 9 a.m., injured at least three workers among the tanker's crew of 30.

Thousand Islands Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Hero Bachtiar confirmed the fire.

"The fire has been put out," Hero said Friday as quoted by kompas.com.

He added that the three workers had sustained burns, and said police had found it difficult to reach the scene because they only have a small boat to send back-up personnel.

"The scene of the incident is quite remote," Hero said, adding that four police officers and several members of the Navy had been sent to assist in the operation.
