Two commercial fishermen made a grisly discovery Sunday morning, pulling up a body in full scuba gear caught in their crab trap in Burrard Inlet, B.C. The body, discovered just west of Cates Park in north Vancouver, was in such advanced stage of decomposition its gender has yet to be determined, RCMP said. The B.C. Coroners Service has the body for examination. “We don’t know if we’re dealing with foul play or natural causes,” said Cpl. Richard De Jong of the North Vancouver RCMP, adding it was uncertain how long the body had been in the water. “It depends on the depth and temperature of the water; both can play into the rate of decay,” he said. While the body was found between Deep Cove and the Ironworkers Memorial Bridge, RCMP were unsure where it originated, or how far it might have travelled in the water. “It depends on the currents, on the tide,” De Jong told QMI Agency. “Was the person near the crab traps? Or did they get tangled up in the crab traps after floating for some distance under the water?” Police are asking the public’s help to link the body to possible missing persons reports in the Lower Mainland. “If you know of a scuba diver who hasn’t been heard of for some time, then notify the RCMP because at this point we don’t have a missing diver reported,” De Jong said.
