Grenada underwater park gets two more sculptures

Two new statues have joined Grenada's Underwater Sculpture Park, the island's most visited tourist attraction.

Christ of the Deep commemorates a shipwreck.

Sienna depicts a young girl, gifted in free diving, who is searching for lost treasure.

Sienna, one of the original pieces in the underwater museum, which opened in late 2006, was damaged by corrosion and sea conditions, so the replacement is more robust and should last longer, according to Howard Clarke, chairman of the management group that oversees the park.

The sculpture park is in Moliniere Bay, two miles north of St. George's on the island's west coast.

The original 65 statues, created by British artist Jason de Caires Taylor, are submerged in about 20 feet of clear water, visible to snorkelers, divers and those in glass-bottom boats.

The Circle of Children, the iconic image of the park and what tourists want to see the most, shows 26 children in a circle holding hands and facing into the current.
