Five favorite don’t-go-in-the-water movies

Melissa Locker -

Put on your water wings, grab a floatie, and take some deep breaths, because we’re showing “Open Water” tonight at 8/7c.

If there is one movie to put a crimp in your super fun vacation plans to go snorkeling, it’s this tale of happy-go-lucky vacationers accidentally abandoned in shark-infested water.

Susan (Blanchard Ryan) and Daniel (Daniel Travis) are a busy married couple who head out for a relaxing island vacation and some quality time together.

They sign up for some scuba diving and head out to sea with a group of other divers aboard a rented boat.

Since they are certified to dive in open waters, the couple breaks off from the group to go exploring.

Then the ship screws up the head count and leaves the couple stranded in shark-infested waters 15 miles from land. What follows isn’t pretty, but is pretty intense.

The worst part about the movie is that it’s based on a true story.

Are you a certified landlubber now? If not, here are five of our favorite scary water movies:

1. “Jaws” You know it, you love it, let’s all sing the “Jaws” theme.

2. “Open Water” A fun snorkeling excursion turns significantly less fun when the boat leaves you miles from anywhere in open water.
