Body of French cave explorer found after massive search effort

A rescue team has found the body of a French cave explorer eight days after he went missing underground in southeastern France.

A local official who led the massive search effort in the Ardeche region says two British divers found the body of missing spelunker Eric Establie.

Official Jean Rampon said the 45-year-old cave diver had drowned. His body was discovered Monday.

Rescuers had hoped to find the experienced spelunker alive after they detected what they thought might be tapping sounds coming from underground — noises they hoped were a signal from the missing man.
