DNRE seeks 'lighthouse keepers' at Tawas Point Lighthouse

Danielle Emerson -

The Department of Natural Resources and the Environment is looking for a person or persons to spend a week or two at Tawas Point Lighthouse, 686 Tawas Beach Road, as "lighthouse keepers."

According to a press release issued by the department, "keepers" are responsible for greeting guests, leading visitor tours, providing guests with historical information about the museum and the area, working in the museum's gift shop and performing light maintenance of the building and grounds.

Volunteers can stay in the newly renovated lighthouse keeper's quarters for $250 per person, per week in exchange for their contribution of time and effort. The quarters include two bedrooms, a kitchen and one bathroom.

The program is available to singles and couples from March 4 through Dec. 23.

For more information, contact Chuck Allen at (989) 362-5041 or Mary Dettloff at (517) 335-3014.
